= Exploring Student Council = By Alexander M. At NorthStar Academy, there are a variety of outlets for students to follow their individual passions and practice valuable skills. Examples include clubs, online chapel meetings, and esports teams. However, these outlets would not be able to continue functioning the way they do today without the student council at NorthStar Academy. While a council of students might at first seem barely related to the workings of NorthStar Academy’s student body, its members do quite a bit for the student body behind the scenes. First, the student council provides excellent opportunities for student leadership at NorthStar Academy. These opportunities allow students to really delve into what it means to be a leader and a part of the team. The current vice president of the student council, Lydia, says that the student council “is meant to be an active learning leadership experience.” This is certainly true. The ninth-grade representative at NorthStar Academy, Nathan, says that he has learned many qualities related to leadership such as responsibility and patience, both of which are key ingredients in becoming a true leader. Second, the student council acts as a go-between for the students and faculty here at NorthStar Academy. They do this in multiple different ways. For example, members of the student council publish weekly updates for the student body. These updates cover all kinds of announcements regarding NorthStar as a school and the student body. Another excellent example of the student council’s work would be how they apply student feedback to their work through surveys and polls. Third, the student council plans tons of events for the student body. These events cover all kinds of different concepts at NorthStar. For example, just this last Christmas, the student council created a Christmas card exchange as well as a radio show for the holidays. Another great example of the events planned by the student council are monthly grade calls for students to interact and get to know each other. These events promote student interactions, which are extremely helpful in an online school environment. Fourth, the student council plays a key role in managing the student body. One of the content creators on the student council, Jared, summed this up perfectly by stating that the members of student council “maintain threads and conversations to make sure things aren't going too far, or other things in which would negatively impact the school.” This shows another way that the student council works behind the scenes to benefit the student body. Overall, the student council at NorthStar Academy truly has a larger impact on the student body than some might think. From managing online chat groups to creating special events for students to attend, the student council and its members work to manage and support the student body that the students at NorthStar have come to greatly appreciate. Also, if you would like to hear more about the student council feel free to talk to some of the amazing student council members at NorthStar Academy, since elections for new student council members will be occurring between March 11 - April 29, 2024. ----Alexander M. lives in Georgia, USA, with his parents and younger sister. He has been a student at NorthStar for a year and is just starting to write for the ''Navigator''. He likes to play Minecraft with his friends and plays for the different esports teams here at NorthStar Academy. [[Category:Navigator Articles]] [[Category:Nav 23-24]]
